The Peace That Passes Understanding

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:4-7

When we pray, or supplicate, we are humbly and earnestly petitioning to God. We are to do this for everything. With this comes reliance. As we are earnestly petitioning Him for more and more in our lives, we are increasingly relying on Him. Thus, when we make our requests known to Him in everything, we are relying on him completely. We add thanksgiving to this mix, remembering all He has done and all that He can and will do. This gives us peace. When we are completely reliant on and appreciative of God, we trust Him and that gives us the peace that passes all understanding.

Having peace does not mean that nothing bad will happen. Having this peace comes from trusting God- that He will take care of you- that you have laid all your worries at His feet and He will take control of them. Now, even when bad things happen, you can look at it with a new perspective- of calm, quiet, peace.
